Palácio de Tavira, Portugal

Just a 30-minute drive from Faro lies Tavira, where cobbled streets wriggle through its centuries-old core, brimming with white-washed houses and ornate churches. Travellers can feast on fresh seafood at open-air restaurants that spill onto plazas before taking a fishing boat to Ilha de Tavira, a sprawling island off the coast, to explore miles of sandy beaches. The latest hotel opening to tempt you there is Palácio de Tavira. Set within a majestic 19th-century palace, the hotel is designed to mirror the town’s rich cultural heritage. Its elegant façade and intricate interior details reflect Portuguese grandeur, while the addition of a new medina-inspired wing pays homage to Tavira’s Moorish influences, blending two cultures that have shaped the town’s identity.

Clever Cleaning

Eight years ago, Purdy Rubin and Charlotte Figg were fed up with highly toxic cleaning products in plastic packaging and embarked on a mission to detox and simplify home cleaning. The result – Purdy & Figg, the UK’s fastest-growing natural cleaning brand of beautifully-scented and refillable cleaning products. Now, the two women have co-written a book, Clever Cleaning – The Natural Way to Clean Everything, in which they share their knowledge and show us how products made of natural ingredients and essential oils can more than hold their own against the chemical ‘big guns’, and that we only need four core products to clean the house from top to bottom. The book also includes a comprehensive ‘Stain Bible’, with instructions for getting rid of every possible stain, from turmeric and avocado to rust and sweat marks; tips on everything from zero-effort oven cleaning and getting rid of limescale to banishing moths; and a fun questionnaire to discover what kind of cleaner you are. In short, it’s all about elevating your cleaning from a chore to a pleasure and filling your house with gorgeous, spa-like scents, while creating a healthy, sustainable life.

Cheffie

There’s something incredibly appealing about a restaurant experience in your own home, but the uncertainty about who the chef is, whether the food will be good enough and whether the evening will flow can feel a bit risky. Cheffie is a luxury dining app designed to connect you with world class private chefs, from Cordon Bleu-trained to Master Chef finalists. With just a few taps, you select a date, time and number of guests, then browse a curated list of chefs with menus that suit your preferences. All Cheffie chefs come fully vetted, with up-to-date hygiene certifications and expertise in managing dietary requirements and allergies.

We tried the service with 2021 Master Chef winner Daniel Lee and opted for a Pan Asian menu. From sushi and sashimi, siu mai and char siu bao to Cantonese sweet bbq pork and Thai red prawn curry, the meal was exceptional and portions were generous. Daniel and sous-chef Megan were great company as they set up and prepared the food, and we enjoyed leftovers the next day. Best of all? The spotless kitchen at the end of the evening.

Comprising 75,000 sq ft of listed buildings, courtyards, terraces and vaults, the design blends heritage roots with modern finishes to create a stylish and sympathetically reimagined space. The exterior landscaping has been recently implemented by Jon Wheatley, RHS Victoria Medal of Honour recipient and fourteen-time RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winner, whose team will continue to curate seasonal planting and displays.
