Why Semi-Permanent Liner Is Beauty’s Next Big Thing
It’s Designed To Subtly Define The Eyes
Tattooed-on eyeliner sounds scary, but this is really just a subtle ‘tweakment’. Think of it more as a lash enhancer than a ‘tattoo. It aims to give the effect of fuller lashes and is a sure-fire way to dial up prettiness and youth. It works by filling in between the lashes to create the illusion of thicker, darker and completely full lashes without looking lined or like obvious make-up. You can have the tattoo on either your top or lower lashline, though on top is more popular for a fainter effect.
The Treatment Itself Is Done With A Needle
But don’t let that put you off. The needle is tiny and your therapist will use a numbing cream so it doesn’t hurt. At most it’ll feel strange and slightly pulling, but that’s it. The treatment begins by removing all eye make-up, then going in with a needle-topped pen, which carefully breaks the skin so the numbing cream can take effect. It’s an uncomfortable feeling, but it’s quick and very bearable. Once you’re numb, the needle will be used to draw on the permanent ink, depositing it in the skin. The cream means this part is painless, though you’ll definitely feel a gentle bit of tugging. The amount your therapist runs the ink back and forth depends on the intensity you’re after – it’s all very customisable, so don’t worry about looking overly inked.
There Is Little Downtime Post-Treatment
The treatment takes no more than an hour and a half, and requires little to no downtime. You may find your eyelids are a little sore and swollen (think the symptoms of hayfever) but nothing more than that. All side effects will have disappeared completely after a couple of days.
You’ll Find The Results Really Go The Distance
Just like microblading, semi-permanent liner often requires a touch-up four to six weeks after the initial process. Once that’s done, it’s set to last you a long time – two years at least. The price (see below) might seem high for a minor freshen-up, but when you break down cost per wear, it’s pretty minimal. It’s definitely worth considering if you’re someone who reaches for liner daily, or wants to boost paler lashes right at the root.
It’s An Investment, But A Worthy One
As with most semi-permanent treatments, this comes with a pretty hefty price tag. But keep in mind it’s a long-term investment, which is especially handy if you’re a lazy beauty girl. You’ll get at least two years of being able to skip on eyeliner for your money – and sometimes mascara too. You’ll also find most of these treatments offer touch-ups within the price tag set at the beginning. We rate The Eyelash Enhancer Treatment at Lanesborough Club and Spa. Starting from £1,400, it includes a top-up and is known for a natural finish and serious precision. There will be other places that offer cheaper alternatives (Treatwell is a great place to start) but make sure you do your research before booking in.
